The Bowen Technique at Woodbridge Physiotherapy Practice
Suffolk Bowen Therapy Centre was set up at the practice in 2009 By Debbie and Amanda. The clinic has fast become a success with patients and continues to offer effective treatment of a wide range of conditions.
What is the Bowen Technique?
The Bowen Technique is a remedial tool. It differs from many other forms of therapy in that it does not attempt to inflict the will of the therapist or a specific outcome onto the client. Instead it offers the body an opportunity to restore structural integrity.
The technique cannot be compared to any other form of therapy currently in existence. Where one can see that there are occasional similarities with certain disciplines, there is nothing consistent enough for it to be categorised.
What conditions can be treated?
There is no situation where the Bowen Technique cannot be used safely and to good effect. People of all ages from newborn babies to the elderly can benefit.
We treat the body as a whole but certain common conditions respond particularly well to the Bowen Technique such as:
- Low Back Pain
- Frozen Shoulder
- Neck Pain
- Hayfever
- Asthma
- Migraines
- Sports Injuries
- Bladder and Bowel Problems
Treatment is given at weekly intervals and should not be combined with any other physical therapy except Nutritional Therapy, Homeopathy and Flower Essences.
What to expect during treatment
The technique consists of a series of moves across muscle, tendon and other soft tissue. The therapist uses his or her fingers or thumbs on specific areas, applying gentle pressure to effect a movement of the tissue. The majority of the moves can be performed through light clothing such as tee shirts or leggings.
There is no:
- Hard tissue manipulation involved
- Adjustment or high verlocity movment
- Massage or use of oils
- Deep or prolonged pressure
